Proyecto 3193/2024 de investigación financiado por el Organismo Autónomo Parques Nacionales / Ministerio para la Transición Ecológica y el Reto Demográfico, Proyectos de investigación científica en la Red de Parques Nacionales – 2024

Objectives

Purpose of the Project

The purpose of the RIUCO project is to analyze and evaluate the importance of thermal refuges in mountain river ecosystems in order to generate new knowledge and increase the predictive capacity of the effects of global change.

Thus, RIUCO will take as a study area the 6 mountain National Parks. It is also expected that part of the knowledge generated will be applicable to the whole National Park Network.

Therefore, RIUCO aims to contribute to the improvement of knowledge about National Parks and to contribute to management and conservation actions based on the scientific results obtained.

Target

The main objective of the RIUCO project is to analyze and evaluate the importance of thermal refugia in the fluvial ecosystems of mountain National Parks in order to generate new knowledge and increase the predictive capacity of the effects of global change.

This main objective in turn is broken down into the following specific objectives:

  1. To update and identify the distribution of areas considered potential thermal refuges.
  2. To determine the current thermal regime and in future scenarios to analyze the influence on the distribution of aquatic species.
  3. To analyze the influence of the stability / variability of water temperature for biological communities.
  4. To develop a proposal for research, management and / or conservation measures in the face of global change scenarios.
Update and identify the distribution of areas considered as potential thermal refuges.
Determine the current thermal regime and in future scenarios to analyze the influence on the distribution of aquatic species.
Analyze the influence of water temperature stability/variability on biological communities.
Elaborate a proposal for research, management and/or conservation measures in the face of global change scenarios.
